Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for professionals wanting to align performance with wellbeing.

Hello and a warm welcome. My name is Dr Paul Young, and I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT; MNCPS Acc.), Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), academic and coach.

My specialism is working with high performers — including business leaders, finance/law/consulting/professional services executives, as well as current and former athletes — who are looking to align wellbeing with performance. Many of those that come to me for support are finding that anxiety, stress, low mood and/or burnout is affecting how they want to live, work, and perform. I offer practical, skills-based psychological support which makes a meaningful difference.

Alongside my private work, I am also a sessional therapist at The Priory Hospital Roehampton, where I provide integrative cognitive behavioural therapy for adults experiencing anxiety and depression within the hospital’s outpatient therapy service.

If it sounds like I offer the kind of service you may be looking for, I would be delighted to hear from you. To arrange a session (with absolutely no obligation for further sessions beyond), please get in touch using the form below or email me directly at paulyoungpsychology@gmail.com. I will reply as soon as possible.

Background and Expertise

Before retraining as a CBT therapist and psychologist, I spent ten years working within demanding corporate environments across asset management and financial communications, including four years at BlackRock in London and New York. This experience gives me a strong understanding of the pressures many professionals face as they try to balance performance, wellbeing, and personal/home life responsibilities.

I have particular expertise in helping people experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood and burnout, as well as difficulties with self-criticism, low confidence, and self-esteem. I also support clients struggling with perfectionism, imposter syndrome, decision making, navigating work/home life conflict or change, career transitions, frustration and anger.

My approach is practical, compassionate, and skills-based, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. Together, we identify the thought patterns and behaviours that may be keeping you stuck, while developing healthier alternatives aligned with your values, goals, and way of life.

In addition to my therapy work, I am also a published academic in the field of corporate mental health coaching, having completed my PhD in this area (with multiple publications arising from my thesis). Given this experience, I also work with companies who seek to integrate mental wellbeing coaching into their employee offering.

Services and Approach

I offer online individual therapy for adults aged 18 and over. Sessions last 50 minutes, and there are no fixed limits on the length of therapy. For further information, please click here.

I aim to provide a space that feels safe, compassionate, and free from judgement. My style is warm, collaborative, and approachable, recognising that seeking support can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially in the beginning.

I place each client’s goals at the centre of the process and work at a pace that feels supportive and appropriate to their individual needs.

Given my own personal professional background, I am well positioned to appreciate (and work around) the work/home life pressures you may be facing as a high performing professional.
